Avoiding Good because of Expectations
There are those who expect the worst from life; because somehow they tend to gravitate toward exactly that which they perceive as worst. Then there are those who expect the best from life, and they get it. The best things come to those who expect them!
I think it was Earl Nightingale who once said, “We tend to live up to our expectations.” Whether it’s what other people expect of us, or what we expect of ourselves. It seems that people are always expecting something out of life. And with just a few questions, you’ll find out pretty quickly how someone is living up to their expectations.
Someone once explained to me that he didn’t see how it was possible we could work together because his life was in turmoil emotionally. He saw me as a very positive and vibrant individual, yet his life was just the opposite and in total disaster. According to him, working with me would shatter his fragile world even further.
There are plenty who perceive life just this way. There is an expectation for disaster in this individual’s life. He expects good things to shatter his world, and he believes the bad things are beyond his control. He has become dependent on circumstances to guide his life. Good things that invite positive change become scary. The temptation is to avoid those good things at all costs, because they may in fact destroy the world on which he has depended.
It’s time to take charge of your life. Drifting is only an option if you allow it.
The longer world circumstances control your way, you have no way. Your way will be lost and left behind along with those who choose to let life pass them by.
You hold the key, and have held that key since you’ve entered this world. That key will unlock the treasures with which you will bless the world with.
Sometimes we need help finding that key. It may be so deeply lost and buried that you need to seek an outside perspective to take you one step further. That step further can help steer you towards another step in the evolvement of who are, and the gifts you bring to this world.
I invite you to always intentionally surround yourself with people, ideas, and things to which you aspire. Only rest and complacency come from sitting idle. The time for growth is now. You’ve been allotted this time in this life to accomplish something. Only you can choose to discover what that something is.
I’m asking you to make the choice that seeks the best in life! Surround yourself with growth and opportunity, and let that growth be infectious to your own growth.
