Expect No Less Than Your Worth
Has someone ever made you an offer that you could not refuse?
Let me rephrase that.
Has someone ever forced you to accept an offer or else?
It seems to me that we put too much emphasis on what someone is offering that we forget what we’re accepting. You are offering your services, and they (whoever they is) are typically offering financial incentives in exchange for your services.
When someone negotiates the financial salary with you, by placing an offer on the table, what they are trying to convince you of, is that you are worth this much, plus whatever bonuses, benefits and other incentives they include in the mix.
The reality of that is you are worth three to five times that to what the company assumes based on what they put on the table. It wouldn’t make sense to hire you unless the company was making a return on investing in your services; it just wouldn’t make sense. That would not be business, it would just be spending.
So knowing that simple fact, you have negotiating room because you know you are worth whatever return you are making for that company.
Think about this, since you are offering your services, and they are offering a salary. Your job is to present yourself in a way to where the tables are turned towards mutual benefits. Meaning both offers – your services, and their incentives – are mutually agreed to be the most you could get out of each other.
Would you offer them mediocre services? Of course not and neither should you expect a mediocre salary. Know your worth, and expect no less.
